For our valued client we are looking for an experienced pilot plant operator with the right skillset, attitude, experiences and degrees. In this role you will be a key person in a pilot plant where your daily input will be highly appreciated. The pilot plant operator will be part of a team which will operate a Shell-owned 1 ton per day CO2 capture pilot plant, which will treat a stream of flue gas from BMC?s biomass fired power plant. The purpose of this pilot plant project is to de-risk and prove performance of a breakthrough solid adsorbent stacked fluidized bed technology for CO2 capture, sufficiently to support investment in the next phase of the technology development, which would be a large scale (~100X) technology demonstration project at BMC.

Functieomschrijving

Reporting to the BMC Pilot Plant Operations Manager, the pilot plant operator will operate the pilot plant in line with operating procedures and experimental plan, analyse operational data, and propose improvements. The pilot plant operator will be working closely with other technicians, operators and the Shell Program Manager to ensure efficient handover and effective dissemination of information.

  • Execute all aspects of assigned experimental procedures, in consultation with the Program Manager
  • Deliver technical reports, as well recommendations, to the Program Manager
  • Maintain specified logs, notebooks and inventory
  • Operate a PC to perform various functions such as: data analysis, data follow up, e-mail, inventory updates and time keeping
  • Safely start up and shut down pilot plant operation
  • Be able to troubleshoot and repair minor operational problems and alert appropriate supervision to major repairs
  • Identify equipment or systems requiring repairs, as well participate in its replacement or repair
  • Assemble pilot test equipment and apparatus including pressure vessels, pumps, compressors, heaters, tubing and piping, and safety devices
  • Work with tools to dismantle and reassemble
  • Report to the BMC?s Plant Manager precisely any problem or malfunction in the Pilot Plant that can compromise its performance
  • Be able to identify operational factors from BMC process that can influence the performance of the Pilot Plant and communicate to the BMC?s Plant Manager any change noticed
  • Make observations in unit for any leaks or equipment failures that may create a hazard or cause inefficiency
  • Perform inspections and maintenance of rotating equipment such as pumps and compressors
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs
  • Actively participate in cross-training as needed as well as learning new skills required due to technology advances
  • Work in shifts, including night shift coverage when the Pilot Plant is operating
  • Operate transporting equipment used to receive raw materials and the transport of products
  • Comply with all company safety, quality, and environmental policies
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and environmentally compliant work, storage areas and equipment

Functievereisten
  • Mbo-4/MBO work and thinking level, obtained through education (e.g. VAPRO C or willing to achieve this) or experience in pilot/commercial plants
  • Provides recommendations and solutions to the project based on experience with specific pilot plants
  • Hands-on experience with equipment maintenance and repair
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Good computer skills utilizing MS Office products
  • Good teamwork, interpersonal, communication, organization
  • Ability to think critically, solve problems effectively, and prioritize tasks
  • Constantly positions self to use/maintain processing equipment
  • Must be flexible in work duties and hours, since the position involves shift work and/or overtime
  • Good written and verbal communications skills ? English required; Dutch is a plus
